THINGS I LEARNED FROM LEGALLY BLONDE (and how I relate to them as a college student)
I was around 10 when i first saw this masterpiece, I was young so I couldn’t go to the movies to watch it, so I had to wait for it to be on blockbuster, ask my mom to rent it, and watch it, over and over and over.
Legally Blonde may seem like a regular young-girly-comedy-film, where you see the story of a very childish woman, whose best friend’s a chihuahua named bruiser and tends to over use pink. But the real thing here is that there is so much more in this film, so much I learned from and in a way shaped my life.
YOU CAN MAKE IT ANYWHERE (If you work hard enough)
Elle lived a life of parties and mixers, as you usually do in college, but once she had a goal ( to be accepted in Harvard Law) she placed everything aside to focus on that goal and follow her dream.
I’m not in a fashion merchandising major and I did not grew up on across the street from Aaron Spelling, but i did learned that if you set yourself a goal and work very very hard, good things will come your way, such as passing a Semiotics test or getting into Harvard Law.
MANICURE CAN SAVE THE DAY.
And I use this as a metaphor, manicures were something Elle did to decompress or take stress out of her shoulders, but what is the thing you do to take it away? Give yourself a space at your busy day and treat yourself, maybe going for a run (not me) reading a good story (maybe me) or binge watch your favorite netflix show (totally me), the thing is making yourself happy and having some “you” time.
YOUR PATH IS NOT WRITTEN
Elle found her passion to be law, which she didn’t knew she had, she had to get her heart broken in order to follow Warren Huntington III, all the way to Harvard Law to get him back, little did she knew, she found what she really loved, and it wasn’t fashion merchandise. You don’t really need to have your life figured out, there are so many possibilities and so many things you can be good at, not only good at the things you’re majoring in.
YOUR PAST DOES NOT DETERMINE WHO YOU ARE.
This one is a universal truth, in Legally Blonde, Elle was a “dumb blonde with daddy’s plastic” and ending up graduating with honors from Harvard. People change, everybody. They grow, do great in high school and terrible in college, or viceversa like yours truly, you just have to find what you love. and go after it.
NO SISTER SHOULD PUT ANOTHER SISTER DOWN.
This makes perfect sense because right now and it's super important. it’s all about empowering each other to go further in life, After Elle’s humiliation at Vivian’s party, Elle could’ve had even with that boney-finger bitch, but she showed her she was the bigger person in the picture and at they ended up being very friendly, realizing Warren was a docuhe to begin with. We learned the value of friendship.
FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCT.
As a student being taken seriously is hard work, and every single time i'm in doubt I recall this scene and I just remember I have to follow my gut sometime. When Elle was on the final trial and she didn't really know what else to do, she remember her basic instinct, beauty. and at the end of the day she discovered that Chutney was the real killer of Brooke's husband, which was also her father. Anyways always believe in yourself, and follow your instinct, it doesn't fail.
EXERCISE GIVES YOU ENDORPHINS, ENDORPHINS MAKE YOU HAPPY, HAPPY PEOPLE DON'T SHOOT THEIR HUSBANDS.
They just don't.
THE BEND AND SNAP
This one is a bonus you guys, if you did not learn how to smash a date like Elle or most accurately Paulette, then you really didn't learn anything.
I do not own this images and all rights go to MGM.
